Storytelling with StoryCenter, Berkeley, California since 2019
StoryCenter supports individuals and organizations in using storytelling and participatory media for reflection, education, and social change. We create spaces for transforming lives and communities, through the acts of listening to and sharing stories. Our public program enables people to register individually for storytelling workshops. Our custom program collaborates with organizations around the world, on workshops in story facilitation, digital storytelling, and other forms of participatory media production.
PROJECTS
1) At Home Humanitarian storytelling project is a grassroots effort focused on socially integrating and economically empowering refugees, asylees, and immigrants while building tolerance and understanding throughout their new communities. Our core work focuses on storytelling, mentor matching, outings, scholarships, and partnerships.
2) Digital Storytelling in the Round is StoryCenter's first story workshop/project using Virtual Reality (VR) production and design approaches. Immersive videos add an entire new dimension to exploring our stories and how they are experienced by our communities. Over three days participants learned how to operate a VR camera, develop a narration, shoot appropriate material, and edit and complete a story.
3) Stories of Home : Building Solidarity- StoryCenter is supporting immigrant, refugee, and asylee women in speaking out for their rights, through story; connecting with each other; and building bridges of solidarity to broader communities from all walks of life. Our Stories of Home Project offers collaborative storytelling workshops bringing together immigrant and refugee women and women artists.
4) Beyond the Iron Lady : Storyteller Parul Wadhwa recounts her encounter with Irom Sharmila, the Iron Lady of India and her decade long hinger strike at the DST, StoryCenter.
